The Kruger National Park is, without doubt, the finest birding locality in southern Africa. It provides a unique combination of wilderness areas, varied habitats and easy road access, together with a wide variety and concentration of bird species and big game animals. The park is situated in the northeast of South Africa, bordering Mozambique and Zimbabwe. As one of the largest parks in Africa, it covers an area of almost 20 000 square kilometres, and is roughly 350 km long and 60 km wide. For the birder, the high diversity and density of bird species is the great attraction. The wide range of habitats is responsible for a bird list of over 500 species, while the productivity of these habitats is such that many species occur in abundance. |

| Family and Small Groups on Safari in Africa |
At some game lodges, children are a no-no, and self-catering camps aren't every ones idea of a fun holiday. But as always, Thompsons has the perfect solution...Families and small groups from two to eight people wanting to enjoy a hassle-free safari often discover they have limited options. Many of the fully-catered, leave-it-all-to-us game lodges don't accept children or are very rigid in their programmes. That leaves self-catering bush camps, but for some, the idea of buying, packing and then cooking all their own food doesn't have much appeal. We make use of small self-catering camps and lodges in both small and large game reserves, taking them over for the sole use of the family or group to ensure that their stay is totally exclusive. As always, flexibility is our game, these safaris can be single destination or multi-destination ranging from two to ten days. The emphasis of the safaris is wildlife and related activities. We lay on game drives, day and night, guided walks, boat rides, beach trips and snorkelling. |

| The Wolhuter Tented Safari |
Thompsons Indaba Safaris are in the unique position of being able to offer clients a deluxe wilderness camping experience within the Kruger National Park. The 5-day, 4-night trail is named after the Parks' most famous character, Harry Wolhuter. As one of the original Park rangers, Harry patrolled the old Sabi Game Reserve alone on horseback, camping at night in the remote areas of the Park. During his years in the Park, Harry had numerous adventures and close encounters with animals and it was his book "Memories of a Game Ranger" that inspired us to create The Wolhuter Safari |

|
| The Wolhuter Weekender |
Clients depart from Hazyview at 12h00 in an open safari vehicle to Skukuza for lunch (own account) and an introduction to the Park. Guests should use this opportunity to shop, as there are no shops at any of our sites. This area of the Park offers excellent game viewing and bird spotting and we can expect to see general game, possibly lion and elephant and maybe even an elusive leopard. The guides prefer to use seldom driven back roads on their way to the overnight camps |
